Tesco partners with the Malaysia Food Bank Foundation

Wherever we operate, we work closely with food banks and local charities to help feed people in need in local communities.

In December, Tesco Malaysia announced their strategic partnership with the first food bank in Malaysia: the Malaysia Food Bank Foundation. The Foundation is the first of an extensive network of hypermarkets (including Tesco), hotels, food producers and volunteers to make sure that excess food will be redistributed to those in need.

Recognised as the first hypermarket to donate its surplus food to charity, Tesco Malaysia is supporting the Foundation by providing customers with the opportunity to donate items such as dried, canned and pre-packed food, as well as unsold edible food in its stores. This can then be cooked in the Foundation’s central kitchen and served as warm meals. The food is then distributed to those in need, for example, old people’s homes, orphanages, soup kitchens and impoverished families.

Tesco customers are also able to contribute to the Malaysia Food Bank Foundation by donating food boxes containing non-perishable items during the festive seasons.
