Tesco Malaysia charity walk for children

We want to make a positive difference to the thousands of communities we are part of around the world. We focus on the issues that matter most to our colleagues and customers, wherever we operate, and identify opportunities where we can to have the biggest positive impact.
On 13 April over 2,000 participants took part in Tesco Malaysia’s Walk for Kids. The charity walkathon was held at Tesco Mutiara Rini where families, children, students, teachers and the local community were able to walk 3km or run 5km.
The Walk for Kids is an annual fundraising event for Tesco Malaysia to support nine schools in Johor, as part of the Tesco PINTAR Foundation School adoption programme. The day also included dance performances by several of Tesco’s ‘adopted schools’, and fun physical challenges.
This year, the event raised more than RM470,000 including contributions from over 27 Tesco business partners and suppliers. All contributions will support the adopted schools. Paul Ritchie, CEO of Tesco Malaysia said:
“Following the success of our previous Walk for Kids events in KL and Ipoh, we are delighted to bring the event to Johor to raise funds for school infrastructure, health and wellness, as well as student welfare programmes.
“Our three-year effort has raised more than RM1.2 million in participation fees and charitable donations with all proceeds going towards helping our adopted schools do more for school children.”
With the school adoption programme well into its third year, Tesco has now adopted more than 63 schools nationwide in Malaysia.
