Bank Holiday Bumper Berry Bonus
Bumper British strawberry crop bonus for customers this Bank Holiday will help support British farmers and prevent food waste.
One of our strawberry suppliers has seen a bumper crop because of the warm but wet weather. Hall Hunter Partnership, a family business producing strawberries in Berkshire, Surrey and West Sussex, told us that their crop is bigger than planned for. Tesco has worked with Hall Hunter Partnership and Berry Gardens to take more of the crop and give Tesco customers the bonus berries.
Supporting our British growers
We want to support our British farmers and stop any strawberries from going to waste. To help our homegrown suppliers Tesco has bought an extra 150,000 boxes of 1kg British strawberries to help growers use the bumper crop of fruit. The 1kg boxes will be at the discounted price of £3 and will be available in all large stores. British strawberry farmers are able to make more profit from their bumper yield and customers benefit from low cost fresh fruit.
In February, Tesco were the first retailer to put British strawberries back on our shelves and now working with our suppliers we’re able to offer even more bonus berries to customers.
Helping our suppliers
At Tesco, we’re passionate about working in partnership with our suppliers so that no edible food goes to waste. In the last 12 months, we’ve been able to take bumper crops like this and offer customers bonus deals on raspberries, carrots, cauliflowers, cherries, lettuce, lemons and celery. Customers benefitted from great prices; our farmers were happy we could take more from them, and we prevented good food from going to waste. Everyone wins.
This is another example of Tesco working with our farmers and suppliers to give customers the best British products, at the best prices.
No time for waste
This initiative is part of our ongoing work to tackle food waste wherever it occurs – from farm to fork. Tesco believes that no food that could be eaten should be wasted. That’s why we’ve committed that no food that is safe for human consumption will go to waste from Tesco UK Retail operations by the end of 2017.
